Week 23

I guess it’s been a couple of weeks since I posted. (Three??) That’s okay with me since it hardly makes sense to keep posting the same thing week after week. Summer life is busy and getting busier, but I am keeping up, more or less. I co-wrote an article over the last two weeks for the publication Bookmarks. So, at least I’ve managed to submit something this quarter. Other than that, I’ve been plugging away on Malek. Song’s been on the backburner so long, I should just go ahead and stick it in the freezer! I now have three readers lined up to read Malek for me, and I'm really feeling pressure to get through the whole thing once before our trip to Hawaii in July. That gives me four weeks. Wish me luck!

Week 20

I can’t believe I’ve been doing this for 20 weeks already! How time flies. I worked so hard this week, but not on what I was supposed to, so I really don’t know if I’m doing myself any good here or not. I got on a roll with Malek. I even found a reader of the appropriate ago (8) who wants a draft as soon as I’m comfortable, so I’m trying to get that to him soon. I've also been invited to help write an article for a bookclub magazine, wihch should be unfolding soon. Song is going to have to wait at least one more week. I’m failing in my goal to have something in submission at all times, but it really can’t be helped. I won’t have a computer this week anyway. If I get any work done at all, I’ll be pleased!

Week 19

Unfortunately, I didn’t get as much done as I’d hoped this week. I do have my cover letter ready for Song, but I didn’t get the rewrites finished. I thought I had a better ending, but no. It’s awkward. I had to put it aside so I can get a fresh look in a day or two.

I did a lot of writing this week, but not work. I ended up in contact with an old friend whom I haven’t seen in about 14 years. Needless to say, there was a lot to catch up on. I love the internet! But I feel like I’ve been slacking professionally for a couple of weeks now. I’d better get my act together this week!

Week 18

Yes, I skipped a week. It wasn’t for lack of working, but for lack of time to post here. (Husband needed this computer last weekend and most of the week, too) So, here it is, Mother’s Day (Hi Mom!) I haven’t had time to write today, unless this counts, but otherwise, I’m plugging along. In the last two weeks, I found out that Song did not make the final cut of the competition I’d entered. With 1200+ other entries, I had little chance, especially with my story for young kids, but I do have some ideas for rewriting it before I send it to magazines, so the submission to the contest was well worth it. I’ve also been working away at Malek. I got hung up on chapter seven, and decided to insert some more stuff into chapter two, so I’m basically starting over on editing. Don’t know if I’ll ever be done. I also got inspired to work on Trespiece again after finding it in my desk. So, lots going on. My goal for the coming week is to rewrite Song, and type up a cover letter. Don’t know if I’ll work up the nerve to send it out this week, but I’ll get it ready!

Week 16

Another great week! I finally like the beginning of Malek. I also had a moment of inspiration for yet another new scene that equals my best work ever, so I’m really happy! Top it off with the fact that today is my birthday, and despite the snow (four inches!!), it’s been an incredible day. I love my work. Life is good. I’m so lucky!

Week 15

This was an okay week. In the past, I’ve felt very, very good about what I’ve written. This week, I just feel so-so. I’m trying to edit what I wrote last week so that it feels like it’s always been part of the manuscript, and that’s hard after the fact. So, while I worked a few minutes almost every day, I didn’t put in the hours of work I have previously. I’m hoping I can work more intensely this week. I’ll let you know if it works out!

Week 14

I took a break from writing yesterday, so I’m posting this on Monday. I’ve worked very hard this week. Very hard! And I think I’ve an idea now of what life might be like if I did sell something and was asked to make critical revisions. I added three major scenes to Malek, about a chapter and a half. It wasn’t easy, and I’m very proud of myself for working through it. I spent hours and hours at the computer this week. Of course, I’m not finished, they’re just rough-ins, but it shouldn’t be too bad to edit from here. After I get my house back in order, I’ll get started!
